What is the Metis Archive?

Welcome to the Metis Archive.

My name is Yun, and I’ve been entranced by the human mind all my life. I’ve received a doctorate in cognitive science from an Ivy league institution and worked professionally in education for over two-decades. I’m also a lifelong martial artist, and often use it as a lens to see the thinking process.

I originally created the Metis Archive as a personal catalogue of methods for effective teaching, learning, and thinking that I encountered on my journey. Now, I’ve decided to release the information publicly—as I believe we could all benefit by having a more thoughtful society.

While the contents of the Metis Archive technically includes “anything I believe is related to mental,” I mostly write about a few categories:

  1. Effective Observation and Learning—As informed by my lens as a cognitive science researcher
  2. Mental Martial Arts—The mental half to the physical martial arts. This focuses on practices that keep our composure, focus, and focus when confronted with challenges of the outside world.
  3. “Martial Words”—The words we say can deeply influence the impact we have on others. This portion talks about the lessons i’ve learned from personal encounters, books, and other topics.
  4. Education—I see education as the process of helping others learn. As educators, our job is to support the learner. These are the practices I’ve found to be most effective—and the explanations for why they are preferred to others.
