I&#8217;ve received a doctorate in cognitive science from an Ivy league institution and worked professionally in education for over two-decades. I&#8217;m also a lifelong martial artist, and often use it as a lens to see the thinking process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I originally created the Metis Archive as a personal catalogue of methods for effective teaching, learning, and thinking that I encountered on my journey. Now, I&#8217;ve decided to release the information publicly&#8212;as I believe we could all benefit by having a more thoughtful society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the contents of the Metis Archive technically includes &#8220;anything I believe is related to mental,&#8221; I mostly write about a few categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Effective Observation and Learning&#8212;As informed by my lens as a cognitive science researcher<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mental Martial Arts&#8212;The mental half to the physical martial arts. This focuses on practices that keep our composure, focus, and focus when confronted with challenges of the outside world.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;Martial Words&#8221;&#8212;The words we say can deeply influence the impact we have on others. This portion talks about the lessons i&#8217;ve learned from personal encounters, books, and other topics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Education&#8212;I see education as the process of helping others learn. As educators, our job is to support the learner. These are the practices I&#8217;ve found to be most effective&#8212;and the explanations for why they are preferred to others. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to the Metis Archive.
